Postcards from Iceland
Where do you plan to venture this year? If you enjoy the crisp and slightly grim beauty of the North, then a trip to Iceland has to be at the top of your list. Check out the "living" postcards captured by our co-founder Kairi during her recent Icelandic adventure.
"In short - Iceland is otherworldly. Basically, I could stop here and all would be said. The volcanoes, waterfalls, black beaches, endless open vistas, moonscapes, mountains, lava fields, and bizarre geothermal phenomena are a pure visual feast—especially to a designer. You can't help but wonder how these perfect patterns and compositions could come to exist without any intentional interference. Everywhere you turn, inspiration hits you. Hard.
Icelandic nature is powerful. If there is wind, then there is a proper wind—ships don't sail, doors fly off of cars, and cars get blown off roads. The same goes for snow, waves, currents, boiling steam, volcanoes... Everything reminds you how small you are, which is a humbling and sobering feeling.
But it would be an injustice to speak about Iceland without mentioning the culture and history, the amazing people and living traditions, and the ultra-hip Reykjavik. In addition to the great outdoors, we thoroughly enjoyed some delicious sea-food, interesting museums, and beautiful galleries. And of course, we experienced a lot of zen-like moments in geothermal pools, hot pots, and hot rivers.
Once you visit Iceland, there's a good chance you'll get addicted to this bare, windy, and rugged island.
Don't say I haven't warned you!" —Kairi
